Re: GSBN:Anyone heard of a bale furnace?

Hi Joyce.

Round bale furnaces is one of the factors that since the mid-eighties has caused a considerable move towards bigger decentral supply in heating and electricity in Denmark.
Other main factors are:
- late eitghties and particularly nineties coop-owned windmills
- natural gas district heating plants (ready for easy conversion to biomass fuel)
- required co-generation on all big heating plants (turning them into cph's).

Regarding the straw furnaces: it is obviously a rural solution, nearly always used by farmers.

You can eg. check:
- <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stoker.dk/Halmfyr.htm";>http://www.stoker.dk/Halmfyr.htm</a> click on the middle picture to see a round furnace
- <a target="_blank" href="http://www.susaavvs.dk/halmfyr.htm";>http://www.susaavvs.dk/halmfyr.htm</a>
- <a target="_blank" href="http://www.biomasse.teknologisk.dk/kedler/anlaeg.asp?id=30";>http://www.biomasse.teknologisk.dk/kedler/anlaeg.asp?id=30</a>

You can also make a google search yourself: halmfyr = the Danish word for strawfurnace, rundballe = round bale, halmballe = straw bale.

Best regards
Lars Keller
